Stoppage Time

Posted on May 31, 2012 by Jeanne Faulconer

  • Turn, Turn, Turn

    A time to build up,
    A time to break down,
A time to dance, A time to mourn,
    A time to cast stones,
A time to gather stones together.
    To everything, Turn, turn, turn,
    There is a season,
    Turn, turn, turn,
And a time to every purpose
    Under heaven.
    ---Pete Seeger

Our three sons enjoy playing music together. Two are homeschool grads currently in college; our youngest is still in the thick of homeschooling.

  • Homeschooling

We've homeschooled for the past dozen years in North Carolina, Mississippi and Virginia. We have two sons in college and one in the thick of homeschooling.

Homeschooling styles influencing us include classical, Waldorf, Charlotte Mason, Montessori, discipleship, Thomas Jefferson, unschooling and eclectic. Our interest-based approach includes an eye on college prep and independent living--meaning we read good books, play music, explore science, make math, learn history, go to museums, bake bread, swim, bike, run, play soccer, write stories, hang with friends, build stuff, and walk in the woods.

    Not all in one day.

Writing, editing--for Home Education Magazine and VaHomeschoolers Voice, among others--reporting for WCVE public radio, teaching at Southside Virginia Community College and speaking on homeschooling, raising kids, and family life. You haven't lived until you've produced radio news in a 1931 house with high ceilings and kids playing under your window.
