Harvest Season, Soccer Season

Cornland Fields hosted its last Virginia Soccer League game of the day, yes, at the edge of a cornfield in Chesapeake. Crisp air, blue sky, bright sun, and changing leaf colors made for one of those glad to be alive Saturdays. The privilege of watching a kid you love play his heart out in such a setting is almost too much blessing to take in.

The Kickers lost a terrifically physical game against AYSO Revolution, 2-6–a tough way to end a season that saw them win their last four straight. Nick himself had a great game; frankly, the physical games probably bring out the best in his play.

Pizza at Anna’s in Windsor went a long way in providing the guys with perspective on the season. They’re ready for some winter futsol and already anticipating spring games, when the corn fields of Virginia will be freshly planted, and dogwoods and redbuds will edge the soccer fields.
